Dr. Ivor Elrifi is a partner at Cooley LLP, specializing in patent prosecution and strategic counseling. With an international practice, Dr. Elrifi splits his time between the US and the UK. He is resident in the New York, Boston, and London offices.
Dr. Elrifi advises pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, and medical device companies, research institutions, universities, hospitals, and governments throughout the world. He works with clients in the United States as well as in Europe. His practice includes patent prosecution, litigation, arbitration, licensing, and transactional work with a focus on novel therapeutic treatments, biotechnology, genetics, diagnostics, biomarkers, drug formulations, and medical devices. He holds a Ph.D. in Biology.
Dr. Elrifi is regularly praised as a leading life sciences patent attorney by legal directories such as Chambers, Legal 500, and Super Lawyers. He has also been honored with several additional awards and accolades including being named a "Life Sciences Star" by LMG Life Sciences and an "IP Star" by Managing Intellectual Property, as well as being recognized as one of the world's leading experts on patent law by Euromoney.
Dr. Elrifi counsels clients worldwide in developing and implementing patent strategies and in the prosecution, licensing, and enforcement of patents. He has extensive experience in advising clients on transactional work and regularly counsels clients with respect to investments, mergers, and acquisitions. He has also advised plaintiffs and defendants in patent litigation and arbitration cases.
Prior to joining Cooley, Dr. Elrifi was Co-chair and Section Manager of Mintz Levin's national Intellectual Property practice and a member of the firm's management committee. Earlier in his career, Dr. Elrifi served as patent counsel and then general counsel and vice president for CytoTherapeutics, Inc. in Providence, Rhode Island, and as patent counsel to Modex Therapeutics in Lausanne, Switzerland. He has spoken at numerous international conferences, and has written numerous articles for leading legal and scientific publications.
